Details
After successful completion of a consecutive master's degree programme in mathematics and the natural sciences, or a closely-related field relevant to the study programme, you can get a doctoral degree at the Faculty of Biology and Psychology within the PhD study programme Biological Diversity and Ecology. You will work full-time on your thesis project in the working group of your choice, which you have found by yourself beforehand. Funding is generally not included. In yearly meetings with your Thesis Advisory Committee (TAC) you will get guidance to your project. To have publications within this time is ideal for your scientific career, but not mandatory. After three to four years you submit and defend your thesis (English) to obtain a PhD or Dr. rer. nat. You will be enrolled as student of the University of Göttingen during the entire period of your PhD studies. Earning credits as part of your dissertation is intended to prepare you for a career in science and to enable you to regularly present and discuss your work in front of a public audience, as well as to engage with the scientific work of fellow academics.
