All clear given: WWII bomb in Göttingen made safe
No. 27 - 07.10.2021
The unexploded bomb from World War II found Thursday morning near the University campus has been made safe.
All buildings that had to be evacuated yesterday are accessible again.
Thank you to all staff, students and visitors across the Göttingen Campus who worked together to find alternative accommodation at very short notice. We are grateful for your help and cooperation.
The University gives special thanks to Göttingen City, Göttingen Landkreis and the police who reacted so fast in the situation. Many thanks to the bomb disposal specialists who made the WWII bomb safe. Gratitude is also due to all the emergency workers, bus drivers and everyone else who worked late into the evening and through the night to make everything safe in Göttingen and get people back into their homes. We wish our UMG and all the other clinics and hospitals affected by the evacuation much strength in rescheduling and reorganising their appointments.
We hope that examinations, tests and other important appointments and events that had to be cancelled at short notice on Thursday can be rescheduled soon. Best wishes to all those concerned in managing the extra work.
The work behind the operation and other information is shown on the Göttingen City LiveBlog here: https://www.goettingen.de/aktuelles/aktuelle-infos-zum-kampfmittelverdacht-in-der-weststadt-2021-09-22.html
Worktime recording - info for staff onsite affected by the evacuation
Employees who were unable to work on the premises of the University on Thursday 7 October 2021 due to the evacuation organised by the authorities will be credited with their individual target working hours for this working day. There will be no overtime credited. To achieve your individual target working time, please enter a fictitious "Gehenbuchung" (leaving time) in the ESS system yourself. Managers will be required to check the entry in the supervisor lists to be sent out in November. This regulation applies exclusively to those who were onsite. Employees working from home should record their actual working hours as usual. If, contrary to expectations, the evacuation continues into Friday 8 October 2021, separate information will be provided.
