Erasmus + Green Travel

Green Travel:

Students who use a low-emission means of transport for the outward and return journey can apply for a so-called "Green Travel Top up". Sustainable means of transport are bicycle, bus, carpooling (carpooling with at least 3 people) or train. Non-sustainable means of transportation are airplanes and cars (individual travel). Other means of transportation will be checked by the International Office on request.

Top up - additional financial support for student mobility study programme (SMS) or internship (SMP):

Application for travel days when using low-emission means of transport (Green Travel)

Students have the opportunity to apply for funding for up to an additional 6 days of travel, staggered according to the EU Distance Band, if they use a low-emission means of travel. A corresponding application can be submitted upon request and within the specified deadline. Late applications cannot be considered. The EU Distance Calculator is used to calculate the one-way distance. The starting point is always Göttingen.

Application for up to 2 travel days for non-environmentally friendly travel and a distance of 2000 km or more from origin to destination

Students who do not travel with low emissions but have to cover a distance of 2000 or more km from Göttingen to their destination can register a (justified) need for up to 2 travel days. Upon request, the target group concerned can submit a corresponding application within the specified deadline. Late applications cannot be considered. The EU Distance Calculator is used to calculate the one-way distance. The starting point is always Göttingen.

General information

With the Erasmus+ KA 131 application for a study or practical stay, an initial survey on environmentally friendly travel was carried out. This serves the purpose of an initial needs assessment and is not the application. The Göttingen International Office will send all nominated students information (including an online link) on how to apply during the further course of the procedure. Only applications submitted on time and via the mobility portal can be considered. The supporting documents (e.g. train ticket, bus ticket, etc.) must be kept for five years after completion of the mobility. At the request of the University of Göttingen, the evidence must be submitted, e.g. as part of a possible audit (random sample, external audit). Failure to do so may result in the special funding being reclaimed.

What do I need to do?

When applying, already specify the means of transport of your choice. If your application is successful, you will then have to provide proof (e.g. ticket) that you are using a low-emission means of transport for the main part of your journey even before you start your mobility. The additional funding (top up) is noted in the funding agreement.
