My academic interest in sign languages and multimodal communication began at the start of my Bachelor in Language and Communication at the Philipps-University in Marburg. It seemed contradictory to me that linguists can focus solely on spoken languages, so I tried to draw connections to multimodality and sign languages in each of my courses. I completed my bachelor's degree in 2024 with a study on lexical iconicity and transparency in DGS, and decided to continue with the M.A. in Linguistics in Göttingen in the winter semester of 2024/25. Here, I am no longer the only one with an academic interest in sign languages, but I can finally pursue a multimodal approach to linguistics together with others. As such, I am particularly excited to work at the Sign Lab since the summer semester of 2025.
