Future Digital Law Leaders: Göttingen Celebrates New LIPIT Alumni
Marking the end of another rewarding LIPIT year, the University of Göttingen proudly celebrated the graduation of the latest cohort from the LL.M. program in European and Transnational Law of Intellectual Property and Information Technology. In a festive ceremony, an international group of graduates was officially awarded their Master of Laws (LL.M.) degrees, marking the successful culmination of their advanced legal studies.
Empowered by extensive expertise in IP and IT law, the latest generation of LIPIT alumni is now prepared to take on leading roles in international law firms, global technology companies, and public institutions.
The Faculty of Law and the LIPIT Program Office extend their warmest congratulations to all the graduates. We look forward to seeing the global impact they will make as they step into their future careers as the next generation of intellectual property and technology law leaders!
LIPIT Students Attend 5th Annual DEL Summer School in Austrian Alps
A selected cohort of LIPIT students traveled to the Austrian Alps during the last week of August 2026 to participate in the fifth annual Summer School on Data Economy Law (DEL). Held in the scenic mountain village of Reichenau an der Rax, the program is jointly organized by the University for Continuing Education Krems (Austria) alongside partner institutions, including the University of Göttingen, Masaryk University, Kazimieras Simonavičius University, and Taras Shevchenko University of Kyiv.
The blended-learning program combined a two-week online preparatory phase with a five-day on-site week hosted at the alpine hotel "Flackl-Wirt." The curriculum addressed the complex legal frameworks of the digital economy, focusing on four core pillars: IP and ICT Law, Data Protection Law, Data-Driven Business Models, and Transnational Business Law. Special emphasis was also placed on emerging fields such as artificial intelligence regulation and cybersecurity.
Throughout the week, students collaborated in multinational teams to solve and present practical legal case studies, allowing them to apply their theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios. As in all previous years, LIPIT students' attendance was supported by university subsidies, enabling them to gain valuable cross-border legal training and build international networks in the IT and data law sectors.
LIPIT Team Wins Second Prize at International “Law As Code” Hackathon
LIPIT team took second place at the 2nd International ReMeP-IRI§ “Law As Code” Hackathon. The final presentations and award ceremony were held on July 27, 2026, at the Austrian Federal Ministry of Justice (Palais Trautson) in Vienna.The prestigious European competition challenges participants to translate statutory frameworks and judicial workflows into computable logic. Competing as Team SITARA, the Göttingen delegation successfully presented a functional, open-source prototype to a jury of senior judicial and legal tech experts, standing out among international finalists.
The successful team combined expertise in IT/IP law, computer science, and data science. It consisted of LIPIT students Andrii Prylutskyi (captain), Salome Rtveladze, Jyoti Goyal and Tarık Temur, joined by Ahsan Ali (Applied Computer Science), Irakli Mikadze (Mathematical Data Science), and academic advisor Prof. Dr. Zsolt György Balogh.

LIPIT IP & IT Law Forum 2025
The LIPIT IP & IT Law Forum took place on 7-8 November 2025 in the renowned Green Hall of Göttingen Historic Observatory, bringing together LIPIT lecturers, alumni and invited practitioners from the field for two days of high-level discussions on the evolving legal landscape of intellectual property, information technology and artificial intelligence.
The Program featured an impressive lineup of LIPIT lecturers – including Prof. Andreas Wiebe, Prof. Zsolt Balogh, Prof. Mira Burri, Prof. Mindaugas Kiškis, Dr. Mathias Lejeune, Dr. Stephan Wolke, Dr. Matej Myška, Dr. Roman Heidinger, Dr. Piotr Wierzejewski and Dr. Hendrik Witt – who offered insights on new regulatory challenges, AI governance, digital trade, cybersecurity and competition law, reflecting the breadth of contemporary IP and IT law issues. Complementing these contributions were practice-focused presentations from experts such as Dr. Simon Gerdemann, Ulrich Herfurth, and Dr. Nico Schur, linking legal theory with real-world application.
A special highlight was the strong presence of LIPIT alumni, including Antonia Herfurth, Tilbe Tuğanlı, Volodymyr Spirin, Aurora Mullatahiri and Meisa Kamyab, whose talks showcased the diverse professional paths opened by the program. Their engagement enriched the discussions and underscored the important role alumni continue to play in the LIPIT community.
Current LIPIT students actively participated in the forum and benefited from direct exchanges with practitioners, lecturers and alumni contributors. Many reported that the event inspired new directions for their academic work and master's theses, as well as valuable insights for their emerging professional careers.
