Companies and public authorities often state in internship advertisements that they only accept students who are required to complete a compulsory internship. However, most degree programmes at the Faculty of Social Sciences do not include a compulsory internship — only voluntary internships can be credited as an elective module. Even the internship creditable as an elective compulsory module in the BA Social Sciences and BA Political Science is not a compulsory internship, as students may alternatively complete a semester abroad. Many employers use the term "compulsory internship" simply to mean that the internship can be credited towards the degree and is not separate from the student's studies.

Please speak with the internship provider about whether an internship is still possible in your case, given that you wish to have it credited towards your studies. The head of the Sowi examination office, Ms Brockelmann-Grabo kirsten.brockelmann-grabo@zvw.uni-goettingen.de, can provide you with a letter confirming that the intended internship can be credited as an elective or elective compulsory module and that the university considers the internship highly beneficial. Such a letter is usually sufficient for the advertising organisations.
