Alter Botanischer Garten
Garden open again
Our birch tree stood in a very central location in the garden for over 50 years.
A few years ago, we discovered that the tree was infested with a fungus and was becoming increasingly weak.
Removal had been planned for this coming autumn, as the tree could no longer be saved.
However, following a recent storm front with heavy gusts of wind, the tree leaned to such an extent that it posed an acute danger.
For this reason, it had to be felled immediately to ensure the safety of our visitors.
We thank you for your understanding. (15 June 2026)

The image clearly shows that the decision to fell the tree was correct and unavoidable.
Closure of two Greenhouses
Dear Visitors,
Regrettably, we must inform you that the Cycad House and the Rainforest House will remain closed until further notice.
This is due to damage caused by vandalism to one of the historic greenhouses.
To ensure the safety of our visitors, access to these areas is currently not possible.
We ask for your understanding regarding this necessary measure. As soon as further information about the reopening becomes available, we will publish it here on our homepage.
Thank you very much for your patience.
The Old Botanical Garden Team,
June 15th
Update: If everything is working out as planned we reopen the Greenhouses on June 24th.
