The Old Botanical Garden
Sad news from the Old Botanical Garden: Farewell to a popular ornamental cherry tree
Unfortunately, our popular Japanese ornamental cherry tree in the Old Botanical Garden, which is well over 50 years old, had to be felled. The reason for this was a severe fungal infestation that weakened the plant to such an extent that a large part of the crown broke off during a summer storm.
The ornamental cherry was a popular sight in the garden and impressed many visitors with its blossoming beauty. We regret the loss of this beautiful plant and will miss it.
We ask for your understanding for this necessary measure.
